For location mapping I use a combination of professional GPS equipment including a camera-mounted unit (Nikon GP-1) to ensure accurate image placement and a handheld unit to log and track between locations. This data is then mapped using Keyhole Markup Language (KML). KML is an XML notation for expressing geographic annotation and visualization within internet-based, two-dimensional maps and three-dimensional Earth browsers. It is aslo the open standard for geospatial content and services, GIS data processing and data sharing. KML files allow for notes and images to be packaged as well as accurate tracking of data and complete integration with popular mapping and earth browsers such as Google Maps and Google Earth.
All tracked data is private and not available for public viewing in both Google Maps and Google Earth.
